Carmen 2010

The four acts of Bizet’s “Carmen” are overstuffed with action and drama, rhythm and melody.  Not a single sultry phrase or one opportunity for a crescendo was missed in the Lake George Opera’s new production.  Director Jose Marie Condemi and Conductor Curtis Tucker allowed the young cast to play full out, all the time. It’s good to have an opera company in the Capital Region, if only for two weeks.

Excellent singing in superb “Carmen”.  Opera Saratoga’s “Carmen” has so many good things going for it …. Thursday’s large opening night crowd applauded loudly.  From the opening notes of the first act’s men’s chorus, anyone who knows about voice knew that technical levels would be exceptionally high.  Director Jose Maria Condemi did a fabulous job blocking the singers with natural movements.  Acting was at a high level.  Curt Tucker led an exuberant orchestra … tempos were brisk.

Lake George Opera’s “Carmen” hits high … notes. The opening night performance for Lake George Opera’s 2010 Summer Season hit some high notes … with an unbelievably talented company of both featured and studio artists.  John Douglas is the chorus master who produced a grand result with the LGO company and its apprentice and studio artists.  “Carmen” is filled with raucous song, and this chorus made the music sound endemic.
